How does a heavy duty hydraulic cylinder workOne type of mechanical actuator, a hydraulic cylinder, is used to generate linear motion and force. Pressurized hydraulic fluid is the source of the force transmitted to the cylinder, where it is amplified before being transmitted to the load. The motion of the piston is transferred to the load through a rod attached to the piston. The rod can be either hollow or solid, and the piston can be either single-acting or double-acting. Single-acting cylinders only have one working chamber, while double-acting cylinders have two. It allows for bi-directional force, which is often necessary for industrial applications.
